Now in her late 50s, Jenny is struggling to make sense of her relationship with her mother, who has advanced dementia. Her exploration of their past reveals painful feelings she has long buried.

"Glimpses of You" is written and performed by Wendy Barrett, an actor based in the Scottish Borders with extensive experience on stage, TV and in film. "Glimpses" was premiered at Duns Playfest in May 2025. Review: "Wendy Barrett showed us a full range of conflicting emotions as she deals with her feelings, morals, her past, and inner truths, and her mother with advanced mental dementia. This superb play portrays a very familiar and difficult circumstance that many find themselves in, trapped between love, responsibility, frustration and exhaustion." The performance was described as " powerful", "bold" and "poignant" by the audience.

Commenting on the play, Wendy said: "We are living longer than ever, and family members are increasingly faced with caring for their elderly parents who have very complex health problems, and often suffer from dementia. It is an emotional minefield. I hope my play will help people in that position to realise they are not alone." After a short break, Wendy will be talking to John McEwen about her experience writing and performing such a personal piece. There will also be the opportunity for members of the audience to comment or ask questions.
