The Crit

The Crit is simple, it’s an open forum for artists & creatives of all types to come and showcase their work to like-minded individuals and members of the public, in a positive and constructive setting.

Running for almost 2 years now at the Dovecote Centre in Amble, we’ve recently begun to move the event to different venues in order to reach new audiences and generate new connections between creatives in our sparsely populated county. Venues include the likes of Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery in Alnwick and most recently on the Little Shore beach in Amble!

The format is simple, when arriving, if you wish to present you will just inform the host who will prepare a list. Based on the number of presenters attending, you will be allotted a time slot between 5-10 minutes, one by one you will be called up in front of the audience to share more about your practice. The format is very flexible and you may choose to bring one piece of work, or several, or you may choose to pose a question to the audience. We usually allow a short Q&A period for the audience after each presentation.

There will be a break half-way through where you can have a tea & coffee (and biscuits!) and chat to others. We hope that Berwick & Borders creatives will come along, join us and meet some of our Amble crowd. The ethos of the Crit is about mutual support, underpinned by a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. From the outset we wanted to create a nurturing and supportive environment where artists could meet, share ideas, methods & techniques.

We’ve been going from strength-to-strength and can’t wait to see who will come along and join us when we hit the road and visit England’s northernmost town!
