BETWEEN THE LINES
Candid conversations about how writing really happens.
Between the Lines is a live conversation series exploring how writing really happens. Hosted at The Straw Yard and recorded as a live audience podcast, each event invites an author into an unedited discussion about the realities of a writing life: the long arc of making work, momentum and doubt, rejection and resilience, instinct and discipline, and the moments that make writing feel alive and worthwhile.
Audience questions are an integral part of the evening, creating a thoughtful exchange between writers and readers.
This event features Claire Carver, a novelist, journalist and former TV producer whose debut romantic comedy Still Got It was inspired by her long-standing connection to Greece . Claire writes contemporary romance rooted in second chances, risk, and reinvention, often set against vividly realised locations.
In conversation, Claire will reflect on her route into publishing, including the unusual experience of being approached by her agent and editor with the concept for a three-book deal. The discussion will explore the realities of writing in a genre known for its famously tight deadlines, and the creative challenges and freedoms of writing interconnected yet standalone novels.
Together, we’ll look at pace, pressure and productivity, and what it means to sustain both quality and voice within the demands of commercial publishing.
Recorded live as a podcast at The Straw Yard, the event invites questions from the audience that matters most: writers and readers. Arranged by the Berwick Writers’ Forum, part of the Berwick Literary Festival.
