Join us for an informal series of talks at The Straw Yard in a cabaret-style setting.
Speakeasy is programmed by Berwick creatives Samantha Cary and Chris Adriaanse, who are inviting artists with practices that resonate with them to share insights about their career, art and creative practice, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
We are delighted to be hosting Rachael Champion at the Straw Yard for the latest event in the series.
Rachael is a visual artist working in site-specific sculpture and installation. Her work explores the physical, material, and historical relationships between ecology, heritage, and the built environment.
Her work is situated at the intersection of biology, geology, and architecture. Her practice investigates the relationships between landscapes, ecosystems, and the public realm, exploring the ways natural and cultural histories shape our experience of place.

About Rachael Champion
Rachael Champion (b. 1982, Long Island, New York, USA) graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art from the Royal Academy Schools in 2010.
Her work has been exhibited widely throughout the UK and internationally in a variety of contexts including commercial art galleries, artist-run exhibition spaces, theatres, and remote landscapes. UK institutions include the Whitechapel Gallery, Camden Arts Centre, Zabludowicz Collection, and Modern Art Oxford.
Rachael has been awarded a number of prizes and residencies including the Red Mansion Art Prize in 2010, The Arts Foundation Award for Sculpture 2013, an honouree artist at the Hirshhorn Museum Gala in 2016, and in 2018 she was an artist-in residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska.
She is represented by Hales Gallery London / New York.
